Charlie Westbrook is an American artist in the discipline of painting. Charlie has exhibited his work in solo and group shows with highly influential patrons and exotic venues in New York and throughout Virginia. An art professional for over 20 years, his award-winning artwork has garnered critical acclaim in various media and notable publications. Westbrook’s paintings evoke a vitality and an enduring sense of well-crafted enigma that has solidified his reputation with notable collectors. In addition to his role as artist, he is also a gallery owner, real estate developer with properties that cater to the arts, serving at risk youth and involved in neighborhood outreach. His second storefront fine art studio is nestled in the Fan District of Richmond, Virginia. Charlie Westbrook is currently represented by Manchester Contemporary Gallery of Richmond.

I choose to create visual contrasts that exist between the figurative and the elemental coupled within landscapes that express self-actualized power and synergistic energy. I endeavor to work improvisationally, almost gesturally to create art that foments both drama and raw emotion. With subject matter materializing from personal experiences connected to an unconscious force, I seek to push the creative process through impastos of paint until the strain between the idea and the new creation takes over and the exercise reveals itself anew as the work.

My paintings are images depicting the confusion, fiction and hope we experience in our everyday, messy lives. Painting with colors and compositions conveying the evolving notions of "home", social isolation and public tribalism, I seek to create platforms for perceived truths, introspection and discourse.
