ARTIST STATEMENT

I choose to create visual contrasts that exist between the figurative and the elemental coupled within landscapes that express self-actualized power and synergistic energy. I endeavor to work improvisationally, almost gesturally to create art that foments both drama and raw emotion. With subject matter materializing from personal experiences connected to an unconscious force, I seek to push the creative process through impastos of paint until the strain between the idea and the new creation takes over and the exercise reveals itself anew as the work.

My paintings are images depicting the confusion, fiction and hope we experience in our everyday, messy lives. Painting with colors and compositions conveying the evolving notions of "home", social isolation and public tribalism, I seek to create platforms for perceived truths, introspection and discourse.
