Last Saturday, at 1708 Gallery’s Annual Auction, CABIN FEVER, MILE MARKER 31 found a new home! This will be the second of eight paintings that has flown away from the ROADKILL nest to live its own life.
I feel so honored when people feel inclined to purchase my work. Of course, it is wonderful when friends and family buy the work, but when a stranger buys it, it’s a thrill because the aren’t as familiar with the painting’s backstory or who I am. To have your work out there speaking for itself is a big emotional accomplishment.
Many thanks to the 1708 Gallery and what they do to bring artist together with their people!
It excited me to find camaraderie among people of the arts, as well as, and supporters of the art at Cabin Fever. It was great to be in the same room with birds of a feather who create and appreciate art, and also understand it as a catalyst for change. I am very proud of the wonderful quality of art and their artists here in Richmond, VA, and I look forward to continuing to get to know them further!
In fact, I am even more excited because out of this show came another invitation for me to be a part of another group exhibition in May! I will have more on what this coming show means to me in future newsletters. Click the link below to preliminarily learn about the show entitled ‘FALL OF FREEDOM’ happening on May 1, 2026. Save the Date!

MILE MARKER 7

Two birds against the stark blue sky share a tree limb while occupying a fractured space—one rendered in ghostly strokes, the pretty other bound tightly in a yellow cage. Their confinement speaks of a world where freedom is ornamental, and survival is negotiated within the architecture of control reflecting the tension between what was a vibrant life and the not so quiet suffocation of environments stripped of promise.

MILE MARKER 5

Emerging from layers of yesterday’s headlines, a rhino gazes into a pool to glimpse its predecessor while caught in a future as a being whose existence has become archival. Documented evidence of the erasing in real time, a majesty that has passed.

36 X 48”

MILE MARKER 2

Enclosed. Two lions lie roadside; their predatory power reduced to decoration and reconfiguration in a territory that is no longer their own. A ladder ascends to a future of nowhere as the watchful eye-beacon demonstrates that wildness is imprisoned in the fragments of our sprawl—trapped not by visible barriers but by systematic elimination.

MILE MARKER 19

Three giraffes confined at the edge of civilization - a road on one side and a windowless room overhead bearing the remnants of a Ghandi quote hidden by an oblivious smiley face. One animal wearing a paper bag to shield her disgrace, their presence feels accidental, suspended in the unnatural where nature has been erased and replaced by elements of our design - the quiet aggression of progress with wilderness reduced to margins, survival negotiated in the shadow of convenience.

As you can see, the ROADKILL collection is dwindling through time! If any of my paintings are sparking a certain resonance that keeps calling to you, please reach out! I’d love to hear what comes up for you when you view them. Click the image below to send me a message! |
